Sony starts Android Jelly Bean roll-out for Xperia smartphones

Optimising new versions of Android for existing phone sure seems to take a while, but Sony is now unleashing Jelly Bean for some of its Xperia handsets

Sony has announced the Android Jelly Bean release schedule for the first batch of Xperia smartphones.

In a post on the Sony Mobile blog, the company said the Android 4.1 update is now rolling out to the Xperia T and Xperia V devices, while the Xperia TX will get the software bump next month.

Sony says it has been "been working to blend our Sony Xperia software with Google’s Jelly Bean release to create optimum user experiences," while the roll out will also feature upgrades to some of Sony's own apps and services.

Along for the Jelly Bean ride will be improved Walkman, Album and Movies applications, which Sony claims will bring a "slick, easy-on-the-eye library that lets you view and access all your snaps, videos and tunes in one place."

There's also improvements to the camera viewfinder, allowing for one-touch switching between front and rear cameras, while there's also a new search function within the application tray and auto-resizeable homescreen widgets.

As soon as Jelly Bean 4.1, which also brings the likes of Google Now and Project Butter into play, lands on the respective devices, users will receive a notification, allowing them to download the update over the air.

biteSMS replaces Apple’s Messages app and adds a slew of useful features. The coolest aspects of biteSMS are Quick Compose and Quick Reply. You can send a message without having to go into the actual Messages app. Just press a volume button on the iPhone and tap the on-screen volume indicator to bring up Quick Compose. Quick Reply lets you swipe an incoming message to answer it without entering the Messages app. You can mark messages you want to read later, and biteSMS will show a little unread ticker in the top right of your iPhone’s status bar.

Stride — Better Passcode ($3)

More creative than a 4-digit PIN.

Android users have always flaunted the ability to unlock their handsets with a gesture. iOS will only let you slide to unlock your iPhone by default, but Stride brings customizable gestures to a jailbroken lock screen.

Once you draw your own unique password, your jailbroken iPhone can’t be unlocked without the specific gesture you create. Stride is really solid and actually feels better than Android’s implementation of the feature. Plus it just looks cool.

Zehpyr — Better Gestures ($5)

Zephry is iOS gestures done right. With this handy tweak, you can use new swiping gestures to quickly switch between open iPhone apps and the app switcher.

A swipe-from-left-to-right gesture can be configured to let you swipe from either side of the iPhone’s screen to switch to the previously opened app. A swipe-up-from-bottom gesture can be configured to quickly show the app switcher without double tapping the Home button.

Zephyr’s settings let you customize how many fingers you want to use for each gesture. You can disable gestures in certain apps, like a game where you don’t want to accidentally swipe out of while you’re playing. Zephyr works particularly well with Auxo.

3G Unrestrictor — No WiFi Restrictions ($4)

Apple restricts what certain services can and can’t do over a cellular connection. For instance, you can only upload photos from your Camera Roll to Photo Stream over WiFi. Many U.S. iPhones are also limited in their ability to use FaceTime over cellular.

3G Unrestrictor tricks iOS into letting certain services work over cellular when they technically aren’t supposed to, including FaceTime. Any app that has cellular restrictions can be added to your iPhone’s blacklist in 3G Unrestrictor. Once added, the app/service will behave as if it’s always connected to WiFi.

There are other jailbreak apps like My3G that offer the same functionality, but 3G Unrestrictor has better compatibility with newer iOS devices.

MyWi — Unlimited Tethering ($20 with free trial)

One of the big pros to jailbreaking is that you can tether with your iPhone’s data connection for free. You don’t have to use a carrier’s WiFi hotspot plan with a jailbreak app like MyWi. The iPhone’s data connection can be shared over WiFi, Bluetooth, or a direct USB connection.

Carriers can catch on to shady tethering activity and potentially charge you for it, so proceed at your own risk.

FolderEnhancer — Customizable Folders ($2)

Not only does FolderEnhancer let you put an infinite amount of apps in a folder, but you can folders within folders. (Folderception?) The folder background can be customized as well with different designs and colors.

eFlorist operates a robust network of 1,800 florists across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Consumers across the globe have an affinity for the Romsey, UK-based retailer, thanks to their e-commerce site and same-day delivery in 135 countries. With goals focused toward further capitalizing market position and affiliate program growth, eFlorist’s Marketing Manager Paul Isaia turned to Google Affiliate Network in 2012.

Paul had three key reasons in mind when transitioning the eFlorist affiliate program to Google. He wanted to grow affiliate-generated sales by 10% within one year, improve the quality of their publisher base, and leverage reporting insights to uncover new growth opportunities.

After first launching the eFlorist program with Google Affiliate Network, Paul noted that he "was very impressed with the reporting as well as the tools to recruit new affiliates." Paul focused on building publisher relationships, using the Recommendation engine to identify new affiliates, and partnering closely with the Google Affiliate Network team to make sure his program had a strong network of high-value publishers. Within a few months, eFlorist also began to use their Google Merchant Center product feed to scale their product catalog to affiliates.

While executing these initial measures, eFlorist started to see a notable sales impact in their program. Within six months, the results spoke for themselves: eFlorist’s affiliate channel revenue grew 40%, well above their initial 10% benchmark. In turn, affiliate marketing’s share of total online sales grew from 15% to 20%, satisfying Isaia and his team.

Jailbreak 6.1 Untethered With Evasi0n For iOS 6 iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, iPod Touch 5G, 4G, iPad Mini 4,3,2

This Jailbreak Guide Works For All Devices (Excluding Apple TV 3) on iOS 6.1, 6.0.1, and 6.0 Untethered.

Today, the new development team the Eva3rs released the long anticipated Evasi0n jailbreak, the first tool to jailbreak all devices on iOS 6.0.1-6.1. The process is simple and only takes a few minutes and we will guide you through it on this post. The Evasi0n jailbreak can be downloaded on either Mac, Windows or linux. We advise that you back up your devices information before doing the process as at the worst possible outcome you may need to restore your device. Before we start make sure to disable the passcode lock if you have one on your device by going into settings > General > Passcode lock. You may turn it back on as soon as the jailbreak is complete.

Mobile optimization tips
Visitors to a mobile or tablet site might be at a different point of the purchase funnel than visitors to a desktop site, so it's important to have an optimized site to match user intent and behavior. Plus, optimizing for mobile might also help you increase your conversion rate through all of your marketing channels, including affiliate.
